I have been thinking about this a lot, lately. Are we meeting - even greeting - our day, or are we preparing to face our day, as if it’s a battle or an uphill climb we dread before we even start?
For me, it’s all about my morning routine. While there are numerous suggestions about what a morning routine should entail, the true key is having one that works for you.
Personally, I don't have the luxury of waking up an hour before everyone else. I need my
sleep! However, I've found that taking a brief moment to greet each day makes a significant difference in how the next many hours play out. I begin with gratitude, followed by prayer and affirmations. This routine provides a solid foundation in gratitude and intention, allowing me to face whatever the day brings as opportunities for growth, rather than challenges to dread.
I’m not saying that my morning routine is some sort of magic formula. I am saying that the essential aspect is establishing a routine that fits my schedule and lifestyle, focusing on consistency rather than length, content or complexity.
Another important element of my routine is giving myself grace. If I miss a day or two, I simply start again, emphasizing self-care and reconnection.
If you are wondering how you might consistently meet and greet your day, here are some quick ideas for creating your own routine:
Daily words of affirmation
Morning stretches or yoga poses
Prayer / Meditation
Journaling
Choosing a word of the day
Five-minute tidying
Setting an intention
Claiming the one most important action for the day
I hope this is helpful and gentle encouragement to create your own way to meet and greet your day.
I'd love to hear about your morning routine and how it's working for you.
